Sultan Battery (formerly called Ganapativatom) is a medium town in Wayanad district of Kerala, India. It derives its present name from Tipu Sultan of Mysore who captured the Jain temple here and used it as his battery here in the 18th century, hence the name Sultan's Battery. Later, came to be known as Sulthan Bathery, its Malayalam version of the name. Ambukuthi mala is 12 km from Sulthan Bathery, three caves are located at a height of 1000 m on Ambukuthi mala near Ambalavayal. From Edakkal you have to do 1 km trekking to reach Edakkal Caves. One can see the new stone age pictorial writings on the walls of these natural caves.
