Madurai or the "city of nectar" is the oldest and second largest city of Tamil Nadu. This city is located on Vaigai River and was the capital of Pandyan rulers till the 14th century. Alappuzha also known as Alleppey, is a town in Alappuzha District of Kerala state of southern India. A town with picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons, it was described as the List of places known as Venice of the East by Lord Cursor. It is the administrative headquarters of Alappuzha District. Alappuzha is the hub for backwater tourism in Kerala. House boats locally called "Kettuvallam" are available on hire on a daily basis as well as for longer duration to take visitors on the old waterways. Sultan Battery (formerly called Ganapativatom) is a medium town in Wayanad district of Kerala, India. It derives its present name from Tipu Sultan of Mysore who captured the Jain temple here and used it as his battery here in the 18th century, hence the name Sultan's Battery. Later, came to be known as Sulthan Bathery, its Malayalam version of the name. Ambukuthi mala is 12 km from Sulthan Bathery, three caves are located at a height of 1000 m on Ambukuthi mala near Ambalavayal. From Edakkal you have to do 1 km trekking to reach Edakkal Caves. One can see the new stone age pictorial writings on the walls of these natural caves.
